Boot Camp description:National Institute of Biology (Marine Biology Station)
The qPCR Experience Boot Camp was held from 27th to the 30th September 2011 in the Piran Marine Biology Station in Piran, Slovenia, a pearl of the Slovenian Coast. Participants from Austria, Croatia and Slovenia, ranging from beginners to advanced level, enjoyed a four day qPCR workshop, with well organised lectures, hands on laboratory work and detailed data analysis. Besides work, there was enough time to establish new friendships and professional contacts through social activities such as dolphin quests and boat rides, a night-time photo session in Piran, a gala dinner at the Socerb Castle and a visit to the traditional Slovenian Salina Nature Park.

The hands-on 4-day Boot Camp was suitable for absolute qPCR beginners and covered qPCR theory, practical guidance on sample preparation and RNA quality control, amplicon design, quality assurance as well as hands-on lab and data analysis sessions.

Real-time PCR technology is an essential technique in every molecular biology lab since it allows for sensitive, accurate and high-throughput method applicable in various areas of life sciences, from pathogen or GMO determination and quantification, gene expression studies, genotyping etc.

What attendees of qPCR Experience Boot Camp said:
Pros:
"It was a really good experience and a good starting point for qPCR in my research. Obviously, everything can't be covered in 4 days, and hands on experience and practice make up for what is missing."
"Very good. I would recommend it to everyone who uses qPCR technique."
" Well prepared workshop (lectures, good atmosphere, good team, theory, practice, good food). It was wonderful."
" I really liked it. I've learned a lot of things I didn't know before, especially practical ones."
" Well organised, well prepared, detailed information. Friendly and open atmosphere."
"It was a very nice experience in a relaxing environment with nice people. I'm very satisfied."
Cons:
"It should last the whole week and it would be good to follow a particular case from the beginning to the end. I would add the red line to the story."
